Subdivision Halloween Party

I am on the Social Committee for our subdivision.  We had started with seven people on the committee and are now down to three.  It's really frustrating but we are trying our best to do fun things.  Today was our Halloween Party.  We got this dumped in our laps four weeks ago.  So we have been working really hard to get everything done with it.  We decided we would do 1/2 an hour of games, a costume parade, and then a strolling trick or treat. (There are not enough parking spots in our parking lot at the clubhouse to have a trunk or treat so we used the walking path behind the clubhouse). We had plenty of decorations so we decorated outside and did as much as possible outside.  I had Ben taking Rachel around to the games because I was in charge of the golfing game.  Scott actually showed up around 3:30 so that was nice.  He was able to take her around to the games again and let her do more things.  Here are some of the activities that we had going one.

Bean Bag Toss (win a spinning top)

Fishing Pond (win a sticky cat)

Haunted House - The older kids kept knocking it down and we were getting frustrated.  Rachel loved being able to go into it.  She thought it was lots of fun.

It started to sprinkle at this time but Rachel and Scott got to lead the costume parade out and around the walking path.
After the parade we did the prizes for the costumes and then did the trick or treating.  It was chaos hence the reason why I have no pictures of the trick or treating.  Scott took her through the people who were handing out candy and when they got to the end she told Scott, "I'm done can I have a snack. Please!"  She is such a funny little girl.  She doesn't care very much about this whole trick or treating thing.

Shopping with Rachel

This is the new thing Rachel does when we go shopping. I was out shopping for candy for the subdivision Halloween party.  This isn't the first time she has done it.  She gets so tired and then falls asleep right in the cart.
I can't tell you how many people commented on her being asleep.  It was actually quite funny.

Church Trunk or Treat

Before we headed to the church we had to get ready.  Here is Rachel's clothes she wore today with her black nose that I had started for her costume.

Holding her banana so that you can tell she is a monkey.  She loves this outfit and even though Scott tried to get her to wear a different costume this year she wasn't having it.  It fits perfect this year.

This is her doing the cupcake walk.  She walked around several times and then gave up when her number never got called.  So we then went to look at the trunks.  There were some really creative ideas.

She had to stand in this line for the costume parade.  Can you tell how excited she was about having to do this?  he he he

Scott was at work tonight and so I ended up talking this kid into handing out my candy and I took Rachel around to the trunks.  I didn't get time to take pictures while she was trunk or treating but after we got done they put the cupcakes out for anyone who wanted to eat them.  So she got her cupcake anyway.  It's so funny because she calls the "pupcakes".  After she got her cupcake she said, "Okay I'm ready to go."  She had all she could handle.  She also didn't like having a black nose and kept telling me to take it off.  She eventually rubbed it off as you can tell in this picture.

Sillyness

I just love the different outfits that Rachel puts on or how she puts things on her head etc.  This day I had done her hair and she found this headband.  I just laughed when I saw it.  She actually had two braids just hanging down but you can tell that with this head band it looks totally different.

Loving have my picture taken in my dress up clothes.

One braid hanging down in the headband and the other one looped into the head band.

Cookie Dunkin'

Rachel has learned how to dunk her cookies in milk. She watched her dad do this with his cookies and she is now all over the idea of this.  She totally makes me laugh because as soon as I give her a cookie she asks for milk.  I ask her if she will drink the milk and she says, "No."   So she is a dunker but not a drinker.  Good thing one of us likes milk in this family so it doesn't go to waste.

1st French Braids

Okay I'm starting to get better at doing little girl hair.  Rachel actually sat and let me play with her hair today.  I did my first set of french braids.  I can safely say that it was years ago someone tried to teach me how to do this.  I couldn't do it then but for some reason it clicked today.  I have to say yes I am pretty proud of this because it didn't look to bad and stayed in all day long.
Looks pretty good if I do say so myself.

Sunflower Seeds

We had six sunflowers that grew this year.  I ended up with 5 of them that were huge.

Here are my sunflower heads.  I thought it would be good to make homemade sunflower seeds.  Here is how many seeds I had after I got them off of the heads.

I ended up soaking about 1/2 of them in salt water.

This is what was left after I fill my biggest pot with salt water and seeds.

It ended up taking 3 cookie sheets to cook in the oven.  It filled 2/3rds of the bin you can see in this picture.  After trying them and they weren't very good I decided not to do any more of them.  Too much work when you can buy them pretty cheap at the store.  Not going to make this mistake again.  At least I can say I tried. :-)

Pumpkin Patch 2012

We bought tickets from one of the elementary schools here in Boise to go to Linder Farm.  I knew it would just be Rachel and myself so I ended up tagging along with Kammi and her family.  We headed to the farm right after school.  Such a great idea because there were hardly any people there so we didn't have to hurry to do anything.  We were able to do things at our own pace.

 Straw Maze
Rachel wasn't quite sure she liked this.  It was good to have Josh and Ben there to help her find her way out.  She got freaked out at the beginning but then she had fun getting lost in it.

 Everyone getting their picture taken.
(L to R: Ben, Morgan, Rachel, Josh)

Look she is 3 feet tall.  Yes that's pretty accurate too.

She loves to climb so she loved climbing on the tires.  I did have to help her get to the top of this tire and then she wasn't to happy being that high up.

 Peek-A-Boo

 Hay ride
She's getting braver and didn't want to sit next to anyone and did good sitting there on the hay.

 Looking at the corn.

 Corn Box
I'm sure no one is surprised to see this.  She loves the corn box.  She would play there all day if I would let her.  We had to actually let her play in it twice to keep her happy.

 Burying herself with corn.

 "Swimming" in the corn box.

Corn Maze
We did the field trip corn maze twice.  We had wanted to go into the big corn maze until we figured out it was 2.7 miles and decided since it was almost 6:00 we should probably not try to take four kids into that one.  I know Rachel wouldn't have made it and would have cried after a few minutes.  So the field trip maze was good for us.

One last ride on the hay ride to end a really fun few hours.
