1st Canning Attempt

Here is my 1st attempt at canning. Yep I said it. I did attempt to can. My mother is going to dying because she knows how much I love gardening and then having to can. I never liked it growing up and I'm not sure I like it now. It was a really good thing I had a husband who actually paid attention growing up because I'm a complete idiot when it comes to canning. We planted one cucumber plant and a few weeks ago I thought I was going to have to go to the store and buy more cucumbers so that I could get some pickles canned. Well I went out on Thursday and sure enough there was more than I could possible expect on that one plant. We were able to pick 16 good size cucumbers. Scott and I went and bought all the stuff we needed to can some Dill Pickles. (When we get some more cucumbers I will have to do sweet pickles for Scott). We had nothing so we had to buy the bottles and even a pot in order to do the cold packing. I was shocked it only took 2 hours to get all of this done from start to finish. Scott walked me through every step because like I said I'm an idiot when it comes to this kind of thing. Every jar ended up sealing and I was so happy. Now we just have to wait 6 to 12 months to make sure we did it right and they taste okay. So now we wait.

New Laundry Room Shelf

So I talked Scott into getting a shelf hung up in our laundry room. I've been missing the clothing rod that we had in our old house. I had started to hang clothes over the door frame. So we hung up this shelf and rod. I love it. The only thing left for home improvements is the counter top in the laundry room so I can fold clothes in there also.

McCall Timeshares

(Out on the patio)

Okay so Scott and I bought Timeshares a little over a year ago and have never gone and seen what we actually own until a week ago. So here are some pictures of the condo we stayed at and some of the things we did. It was so much fun. We were especially happy that we were able to spend time with our friends the Mooso's. Scott and Wade cracked jokes about what they(meaning Scott and Wade) should have done different while building the condo's. Their joke since we both bought into the Wyndham timeshares. I'm sure everyone we visit they will be doing this. :-)

This is a picture actually taken from the door of the master suite into the kitchen area. It was really nice and spacious. Better than I had expected.
The patio. It had a nice grill and Kathy even suggested that we do our own cooking but it was a unanimous "No" that none of us wanted to cook. We took the going out to eat route. It was a nice relaxing vacation.
Wade and I were hanging out waiting to play another round of Hand and Foot after we had gone out for dinner. I was back into my comfy clothes.

Whenever we go any where with Kathy and Wade we have to play the card game hand and foot. We are addicted to it. We only get to play a few times a year so this is what we played the whole time there. Kathy tried to teach me another game but I gave up. It was just to hard and complicated. I prefer games that are easy to get or games that I have cheat sheets for.

New Picnic Table

The other day I saw this really cool picnic table at one of our neighbor's house. It's called a convert a bench. Well I called RC Willey and come to find out they are $200 bucks. I was like crap that's kind of expensive. So I was on line looking around and we found a place that showed these two pictures and it said it was only $94.00. I showed Scott and he was like that's a great deal so we ended up ordering what we though was this picnic table.(Shows the picnic table and then the two benches as benches?) Well actually what it is was only one bench. After doing more research after we had already ordered, I was on another website and that website said it takes two convert a benches to make the picnic table. I was like crap. I had a really bad feeling that we were going to only end up with a bench and not the actual table. I was right. So we got screwed. It would have been cheaper to just go to RC Willy because that price included the two benches to make up the picnic table and we wouldn't have to pay shipping. ARGH. So much for trying to save a few bucks. I really think this was some deceptive advertising because why wouldn't you say this is the bench price only and you have to buy two of them to make up the table. I am very frustrated about this but not sure anything will come of it. So I guess I'm just getting to vent on my blog. Buyer beware! So we did get the bench and it's pretty cool but we will just go to RC Willy to get the other bench so we can have a complete table.
The bench

What it looks like converted into the table. Partial table top anyways.

Garden Update

So as most of you know Scott and I decided to put a garden in this year but really not do anything special to the spot. We really needed to bring in some top soil since our dirt is actually clay over in our subdivision. We were running out of time and so we just hurried to put a garden in and see what we got. Well we are pleasantly surprised by how well the garden is doing. As for those who know me really well you know that I HATE gardening. I've figured out why. I'm obsessed with weeds or should I say I'm obsessed to the point that knowing there are weeds out in the garden I have to get them all picked out as soon as possible. So every night I go out to water the garden I have to walk through it and pick the weeds. I despise weeds so much that I'm beginning to think I might have OCD. So here are the pictures of the garden.

Picture of the whole garden spot. Our pumpkin is actually growing over into the other lot.
These are our carrots that are growing very well.

This is our lettcue. Anybody have any idea why it tastes like dirt(and yes I know it's because it came from out of the ground but even after washing it off it still tastes like dirt)? Not enjoying the lettcue out of the garden because of it.
This is Scott's Cherry Tomatoe plant. Growing like mad little tomotes.
So these are the first picked cherry tomatoes. So on July 31st Scott ate the first
tomatoes out of our garden.

This is Scott's big tomatoe plant. He hasn't gotten to pick any tomatoes off of this one yet but he has got a whole bunch. He is going to have tomatoes coming out of his ears by the time they are finished producing.
Here is our corn. It's growing so fast. It's taller than Scott. Can't wait to have fresh corn on the cob. Yummy!!!
This is Scott's peas. He has actually been able to pick a couple out of the garden and eat them. This is his favorite thing out of the garden. I'm glad he is enjoying them.

This is the pumpkin plant. Yes it's tried to take over the garden but Scott and I have trimmed it up 3 times already and we are always pointing the veins into the next lot. Might as well use space that's not being used. :-) We counted the last time we were out there trimming it up and we have 11 pumpkins growing. We are excited to be able to make jack-o-lanterns. I think we will have enough pumpkins though and will be giving them away. Any TAKERS???
This is one of the bigger pumpkins so far. We are hoping that since we trimmed the veins it will put more of its energy into growing BIG pumpkins.

I don't know if you can really tell in this picture but there are actually three pumpkins growing right next to each other. This is our biggest cluster of pumpkins.

Here are my cucumbers. I was completely shocked to go out there and find them this big. One is 8 inches long and the other is 7 inches long. I want to pickle them but it looks like I need to have more in order to do it. So who knows what's going to happen to these two cucumbers. Huh?
