Scott's Birthday Weekend and New Years 2012

Scott got off work Friday December 30th and we decided to go to Salt Lake City to see the lights and celebrate his birthday.  So when he got home we packed up the car and headed out of town.  Rachel did really well on this trip.  We kept our new DVD player going and she didn't get to restless.  We ended up stopping at Winger's for lunch.  Scott was disappointed because it wasn't as good as it usually is.  We then headed to Mary Gamble's house to drop off Alicia's wedding present and talked with them for about an hour and a 1/2.  It was good to see Mary, Don, Donald, and Timothy.  Rachel really likes Mason, Timothy's son, but she was pretty bossy around him this time.  We then headed to the hotel in SLC.  Scott happened to mention swimming so that was all Rachel wanted to do.  So we ended up having to take her swimming before we went to dinner.  Rachel of course threw a fit when we had to get out.  We changed clothes and then  headed to see if we could get into Scott's favorite restaurant Cafe Rio.  Well the line was out the door and since Rachel was grumpy and hungry at this point we decided not to push our luck.  We headed to eat at the Sconecutter.  While we were eating that's when Rachel started to complain about her jaw and started crying.  This is when we found the lump on her cheek.  (Next post has details about the Kid Care journey).  After we stopped off to put her medicine in at Walgreens we then headed to Temple Square.  It was 9:00 when we finally found a parking spot and started down to see the lights. It was such a warm night.  I ended up taking my coat off because it was so warm.  These are our pictures from Temple Square.

Rachel and Mommy by the reflection pool.

I'm not sure how I got such and odd angle but at least Rachel's smiling here.

Trying to get a good angle but Rachel was done cooperating.  Remember it's 9:00 and way past her bedtime.

 A cool star.

 More lights.

Someone said this was called the "Red Section."
I thought it was pretty cool looking.

 The clock.

Another view of the lights.

We really didn't get to many pictures because Rachel had had it.  She was tired and not feeling very good so after attempting to see the Christus presentation and her running all over the place we gave up and took her back to the car and headed to pick up her medication.  We then went to the hotel and we were all tired we just went straight to bed.  Rachel slept on an air mattress for the first time and did a really good job.

The next day we got up and checked out at 11:00 and ran some errands in Salt Lake City.  We actually went to the Emergency Essentials store and bought nice backpacking packs to put our 72 hours kits in.  I'm excited to get them updated.  We then headed out of town.  We decided to eat in Layton and tried a new restaurant.  It's called Jason's Deli.  If you're ever near by go eat there.  It's awesome.  The food tasted as good as home cooked food.  Next time we go back to SLC we will definitely be stopping there to eat.  We then made a stop in Logan for Papa Murphy pizza and then stopped to see my Grandma Hobbs since we don't get to see her often.  We made it to Montpelier around 5:00.  We went to Jamie's house and eat and played games.  All of Scott's siblings were there except Tyson and Tia.  The kids had fun playing together and watching movie.  The adults played games.  I actually ended up playing the Wii Just Dance for Kids.  It was lots of fun.  This is me and Scott playing against Hallee and Lexi.  We totally lost this round but it was fun.

We actually all made it up until midnight even Rachel.  She did have a little snooze on Scott's shoulder around 11:00 but was up for the ball dropping.  After that we headed to Scott's parents to sleep.  It wasn't until after 1:00 that we got Rachel to bed so needless to say there was no way we were going to make it to 9:00 church.  She hadn't slept good for a few nights so I was totally letting her sleep in until she woke up.  So Sunday was a totally relaxing day.  We did nothing but lounge around and watch some football.  My 49ers won so I was a happy camper.

Scott's trying to get Rachel to bed and she wouldn't stay on the air mattress so he laid down on the floor beside it and got her to go to sleep.

On Monday we started to head home.  We stopping in Poky to eat at Scott's favorite restaurant the Mandarin House.  That's pretty much the only place he got to eat at the whole weekend that he wanted to.  This time it was all good.  We even meet my friend Drummer and my dad there.  My mom couldn't come because she wasn't feeling well.  After that we were off again to see Scott's Grandparents.  That was a great visit and Rachel had Bop running all over the place.  She was so happy to see them and the whole time from Montpelier to American Falls she was asking if we were at Bop and Grani house yet.  We made the loop and saw everyone.  It was great.  We got back home and unloaded with even a couple hours before bed time.  The trip was fast but fun because we really had no deadlines we had to meet.
